Millions of us will travel this week for the Thanksgiving holiday.
AAA is advising drivers to plan ahead and give yourself extra time driving to and from your Thanksgiving destination.
AAA said more than 54 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more away from home this Thanksgiving. That’s 5 percent more people than last year and the highest travel volume since 2005. About 90 percent of Thanksgiving travelers will be driving to their destinations this year. AAA and MassDOT are warning drivers of heavy traffic delays on state highways.
“I will be traveling up here probably within 91 between Northampton and Greenfield,” Samuel Pohner said. “I would probably plan on making it out before or after rush hour traffic but, chances are I’ll probably run right into it.”
AAA recommends driving before or after Wednesday and Sunday afternoon when the roads are expected to be the busiest.
Despite lower national Thanksgiving gas prices, drivers in Massachusetts will have to pay 18 cents more on gas.
