Congamond Road reopened after lightning strikes house in Southwick

Drivers were asked to avoid Congamond Road as crews worked to put out a house fire Monday evening.

Southwick police told 22News Congamond Road between College Highway and Sheep Pasture Road was around of 10:30 p.m.

The house fire was reported around 9 p.m., police say. Southwick Fire Chief Ross Anderson confirmed to 22News a home at 58 Congamond Road was struck by lightning during the storms around 9 p.m.

Chief Anderson added that the fire started in the attic.

Two people were home at the time but were able to make it out safely.
