Overnight closures on I-91 North and Southbound in Holyoke will begin Monday night.
According to MassDOT Spokesperson Patrick Marvin, the on and off-ramps at Exit 15 on I-91 North and South will be closed from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. Tuesday morning.
MassDOT is starting a $1.9 million paving project there Monday night.
The closures will also be in effect Tuesday night into Wednesday morning as well and will allow for construction crews to work.
“When you’re approaching a detour you wanna approach it slowly,” said Gerald Smith at the Agawam Auto School. “That’s the main key. Slow down. Take observation. See what’s going on. Find a police officer and they’ll give you the directions to get through.”
Signs and traffic control devices will be in place to guide drivers through the area throughout the closures. MassDOT is encouraging drivers to reduce their speed and allow for extra time when traveling through the area.
Expected rain could postpone the start of the paving project until Tuesday night, which means the detour could last until Thursday morning.
MassDOT spokesman Patrick Marvin told 22News the work is being performed at night to minimize the impact on local businesses.
