HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Overnight closures on I-91 North and Southbound in Holyoke will begin Tuesday night.
According to MassDOT Spokesperson Patrick Marvin, the on and off-ramps at Exit 15 on I-91 North and South will be closed from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Construction work was scheduled to begin Monday night, but due to the rain it was postponed until Tuesday night.
The closures will also be in effect Wednesday night into Thursday morning as well and will allow for construction crews to work.
Marvin told 22News the work is part of a $1.9 million project that began in the spring. Work for the project is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2019.
The project includes the following work:
- putting new pavement markings and signage in place
- adding new traffic signal equipment
- optimizing signal timings
- re-aligning the I-95 on and off ramps
- widening sections of the roads to accommodate bicyclists and sidewalks
Drivers will be detoured to Exit 13 and 17, and signs and traffic control devices will be in place to guide drivers through the area throughout the closures.
MassDOT is encouraging drivers to reduce their speed and allow for extra time when traveling through the area. Work is weather dependent and subject to change.
Marvin said the work is being performed at night to minimize the impact on local businesses.
