Crash on Florence Rd. in Northampton brought down utility pole; driver charged with OUI

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – A 22 year-old woman from Florence is facing criminal charges, following an overnight crash that brought down a utility pole.

According to Northampton Police, officers were called to the area of Florence Road and Old Wilson Road at around midnight Thursday, after a nearby resident heard a loud crash, followed by the sound of a woman crying for help.

When officers got there, they found a car off the road and a telephone pole snapped in half, with wires down. The driver was not in the car, but was found nearby.

She was taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital to be treated for minor injuries, and is now being charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. Her name has not been released.

Florence Road had to be shut down through the overnight hours and into the morning as repairs were made.
