Maine woman killed in serious crash on I-391 in Chicopee


A Maine woman is dead after a serious rollover crash on Route 391 northbound Monday evening.

State Police in Springfield told 22News they were called to I-391, prior to Exit 2 in Chicopee for the accident around 6:05 p.m.

Police say a Volvo was driving on Rt. 391 northbound when for some reason, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to hit a Ford pick-up truck. The Volvo then went to the left side of the road and crashed into the guardrail.

The Ford pick-up truck went off the right side of the road and rolled over.

State Police identified the passenger in the Volvo as a 32-year-old Poland, Maine woman. She was taken to Baystate Medical Center where she died.

The driver of the Volvo was identified as a 31-year-old man from Westfield. He was also taken to Baystate Medical Center with minor injuries. The driver of the Ford pick-up truck, a 31-year-old man from West Springfield, was taken to Baystate as well with minor injuries.

State Police was assisted by the Chicopee Fire Department and EMS, and MassDOT.

Authorities are still looking into the cause of the fatal crash with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and Detectives from Hampden District Attorney’s Office.

No charges have been filed at this time.
