HADLEY, Mass. (WWLP) – One person was injured in a car accident on Middle Street in Hadley Monday morning.
Around 10:47 a.m., officers were called to the accident involving a 2007 Honda Accord and a 1968 Mack Truck at the intersection of Middle Street and North Lane. An 18-year-old man from Wilbraham driving the Accord was entrapped in his vehicle and seriously injured but still conscious and speaking.
The Hadley Fire Department had to use the “Jaws of Life” to free him from his vehicle. He was then take to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
A preliminary investigation showed the 18-year-old was northbound on Middle Street near North Lane when he crossed the center line into the path of the Mack Truck traveling southbound. Both vehicles made an attempt to avoid colliding but were unsuccessful.
The driver of the Mack Truck, an 82-year-old from Sunderland, was uninjured and cooperated with police. The road was reopen by 2:00 p.m. Monday afternoon.
The Hadley Police Department is still investigating the accident. They were assisted by the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, Mass. State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, as well as State Police Detectives.
