Traffic alert: Crews replacing gas main on State Street in Springfield

Traffic

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – State Street in Springfield will be down to one lane of travel in each direction beginning Monday.

Over the next two months, Columbia Gas crews will be replacing the natural gas main on State Street, from Blunt Park Road to Berkshire Avenue. The work is scheduled to last from 7:00 to 4:00 p.m. each day.

Police will be directing traffic around the area, but drivers are asked to seek alternate routes if possible.

Local resident Anthony Merced told 22News that he’s seen construction in the area for quite some time. “It could be dangerous for now, but in the long run it’ll be better for the cars so they can drive safe through these streets.”

There’s also milling work being done on Eastern Avenue in Springfield. Work along that stretch of road is expected to last a week.
