Union Station construction project to cause detours downtown

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Construction at Union Station will cause detours in downtown Springfield over the next week.

The installation of precast concrete platforms started Monday on Platform C and will continue through Saturday.

According to MassDOT, Lyman Street will be closed to all traffic between Kaynor Street and Dwight Street. Cars will be detoured because of the crane that’s been placed there for the construction project.

Traveler Aaliyah Rice said improvements to the platform help keep the new Union Station going. She told 22News, “This is so much better, the other one was kind of like not safe for me, so I stopped taking the train. But after I came over here, it’s pretty much better.”

MassDOT said they expect to have the crane removed and detours taken down by Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
