SHELBURNE FALLS, MA (WWLP) – A freight train derailed Sunday morning near the center of the Franklin County village of Shelburne Falls.

Fire Chief Richard Bardwell told 22News, two cars from the Pan Am freight heading for the nearby town of Conway went off the tracks at the Elm and Ashfield streets crossing. Chief Bardwell said the derailment can be seen from the nearby Bridge of Flowers.

No one was hurt, and according to Chief Bardwell, “the derailment won’t cause any hardship for local residents who know how to get around town and avoid the derailment area.” The chief expects the problem to be cleared up within a day or two.
