Two Springfield residents recognized with Ubora and Ahadi awards


Two Springfield residents were recognized Saturday night for their commitment to community and excellence in education.

Keshawn Dodds received the the 2018 Ubora Award at the Museum of Springfield History. 

Dodds is a life-long Springfield resident who ended up teaching in the Springfield school system after earning undergraduate and masters degrees at American International College.

Dodds currently serves as the Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club Family Center.

Springfield Central High School student Karissa Coleman received the 2018 Ahadi Youth Award. Karissa is a cadet in the Air Force Junior ROTC, where she tutors and mentors her fellow cadets.

Ubora and Ahadi are the Swahili words for “excellence” and “promise.”
