AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – 15 UMass students will compete against more than 30 other colleges and universities across the nation at the National Home Builders Show in Las Vegas next week.

The competition gives students the opportunity to apply skills learned in class to a real construction company, by completing in a project proposal. The students presented their project to the Western Mass Home Builder’s office Tuesday night.

Robert Robinson, project co-president, told 22News, “We had to come up with the home designs, all the layout and all the work, the estimates and scheduling.”

“We’re representing our school, and we have so much time invested in this project,” said Zach Kushner, project co-president. “We want to get our names out there as a program.”

Hunter Marosits of the Western Mass Home Builders Association said, “It’s a real world thing for them. It’s not just a project. It’s something that you really could submit.”

Students present their projects to construction company executives, who will judge them in front of a live audience.
