SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) — Union Capital celebrated a $870,000 grant at the Greek Cultural Center in Springfield on Saturday.

That money will go towards an app that logs community engagement hours and will help to add those hours by making residents eligible for up to $500 annually.

The MassMutual Foundation announced that the grant will benefit Union Capital, a local non-profit organization that provides resources to residents in the city.

22News spoke with the Springfield Union Capital Director Roberto Martinez about the effort. “It’s something that we really want to help the community, and help Springfield be better when it comes to the social capital piece.”

Union Capital’s mission is to reward community engagement with technology in the hopes that it will strengthen neighborhood networks.
