SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Valley Press Club held its annual roast of local media members and political leaders Thursday night.
Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno was among the politicians and members of the press gathered at the John Boyle O’Reilly Club for the 41st annual Valley Press Club roast.
The event raises money for the Press Club scholarship program, which awards scholarships to high school graduates pursuing a career in journalism.
Valley Press Club President Charlie Bennett told 22News, “This is a chance for elected officials, reporters and the media to all get together on a social basis for charity.”
Thursday night’s roast was titled “Pot & Gambling: Life Can’t Get Any Better.”
Bennett said the name was to promote the roast as a fun event, and it also represents stories being covered locally.
