Air Force veteran speaks out, gets tattered flag in Franklin County removed

Veterans Voices

A Franklin County Air Force veteran has successfully removed a damaged American Flag.

Twenty-year Air Force Veteran Glenn Woods of South Deerfield recently notified authorities when he spotted a damaged flag.

It was one of many displayed in the center of town for the Memorial Day observance.

“It bothered me mostly because one, it should have been noticed how bad the flag was to begin with,” Said Woods. “It started ripping and everything. You’d think that other people would have noticed and turned it in much sooner.”

He said damaged flags are then turned over to the American Legion or to the VFW for proper disposal.

This includes burning them, a salute as well as disposal of the ashes.
