HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – 22News was working to get you answers Friday night after receiving calls and emails from concerned voters, wondering why our cities and towns don’t ask for identification at polling locations.
Holyoke City Clerk Brenna Murphy McGee said state law doesn’t allow polling centers to ask for I.D., unless the resident is considered an “inactive voter.”
She said poll workers ask for your first and last name, and so long as you’re the only one with that name, the state doesn’t require anyone to ask for your address as verification.
Brenna said several Holyoke voters have expressed their concerns about the potential for voter fraud. She recommends they send their concerns to state lawmakers.
