NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – A water main break closed down Winter Street in Northampton early Sunday.
The Northampton police department told 22News they closed Winter Street but because it’s a dead-end street, it did not affect traffic.
They also told us that a tree fell onto a house on Winter Street, but it has since been removed.
Neighbors said there appeared to be a sinkhole where the base of the tree broke. Bill Gerry, a Northampton resident, told 22News that people across from the sinkhole are going to face difficulties.
“But the people who live on the other side of the sinkhole are going to have some difficulties. I guess the town is going to come in and fill the sinkhole somehow,” said Gerry.
Northampton Department of Public Works did not comment on the potential of a sinkhole.
