West Springfield police adds new police dog to the department

The West Springfield added a new police dog to their department Monday morning.

According to West Springfield Outreach Coordinator Carly Camossi, the 15-month of German Shepard, Rado, was added in an effort to keep the program moving forward after the loss of police dog Donn in March.

Camossi said Rado is already narcotics trained, and will continue training for area searches, evidence recovery, and suspect apprehension.

West Springfield Officer John McCarthy is Rado’s handler and the newest police dog handler in the department.

McCarthy is now the second handler in the West Springfield Police Department.
