West Springfield Police Captain arraigned today

News

A West Springfield police captain pleaded not guilty to charges of using his official position for unwarranted privileges.

Police Captain Daniel Spaulding and his wife spoke with lawyers before entering the Hampden County Superior Court.

He was released on personal recognizance with conditions of giving up his guns, passport, and promising not to leave the state without his probation officer’s permission.

50-year-old Spaulding has been on administrative leave since 2017. Indictment papers filed by the court say he took and used more than $1,000 in evidence room cash in 2016. They say he returned those to the police department on May 22, 2017.

A number of people came out to support Spaulding in his arraignment including his father and his wife, Alyssa, who is also a West Springfield police officer.

Spaulding’s pretrial hearing is scheduled for September 10, 2018.
