Western Massachusetts Christians celebrated Easter at local churches Sunday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – It was a time for celebration and reflection at the Spring of Hope Church of God in Christ in Springfield Easter Sunday.

Dozens of parishioners gathered at the church to praise Jesus Christ and celebrate his resurrection from the dead.

“Jesus rose for us and died for our sins and to let mankind know that he died for us to allow us to be saved,” said Farrah Smith of Springfield.

The Spring of Hope Church of God in Christ was just one of many Western Massachusetts churches to hold special Easter religious services Sunday. Bishop Talbert Swan said he hopes the resurrection of Jesus Christ inspires his parishioners.

“This is an opportunity to fellowship and renew friendships and to be inspired by the prayers,” the singing, said Bishop Talbert Swan.  “They will take the resurrection message and spread it abroad.”

Sunday’s Easter service included upbeat gospel music and readings from scripture. One parishioner told 22News the church has been an inspiration for her year-round.

“It’s a learning experience that’s what I love, they teach the kids and the adults that everything is about God, and Bishop Swan- he is amazing,” said Farrah Smith.
