Western Massachusetts towns receive grant to become green communities

News

WILBRAHAM, Mass. (WWLP) – Wilbraham is one of seven western Massachusetts towns that have been awarded a Green Community Designation Grant by the Department of Energy Resources.

The town will be receiving more than $150,000 to fund energy efficiency projects.

“I think it’s a good idea, obviously, if it’s not impacting the taxes,” Wilbraham resident James Burke told 22News. “So I would certainly be all for it.”

Under the Green Communities Act, the towns must reduce their municipal energy consumption by 20 percent over five years.

The other western Massachusetts towns that were designated as Green Communities include Charlemont, Colrain, Heath, Sandisfield, Westhampton, and Worthington.
