WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. (WWLP) – A major from Westover Air Reserve Base in Chicopee returned to western Massachusetts Thursday after being deployed overseas.

Major Kimberly Askew flew into Bradley International Airport Thursday afternoon and was greeted by her family, friends, and troops. She serves as the commander of the 439th Logistics Readiness Squadron.

“Amazing, excellent, it was the shortest deployment I had but the most challenging and so it’s really good to be home and be around friends and family and loved ones.” Said Askew.

The Ludlow native was overseas for 6 months. While deployed, she was in charge of troop withdrawal and cargo.

One member of her squadron is glad to have his commanding officer home safe. Orlando Severiono told 22News, “I can look up to her. She’s a great role model for me my unit and my guys. We are just happy she’s back that she had a good deployment and she came back home safe.”

The Major was welcomed home by friends and family and one of her friends that welcomed her home actually just got home from deployment himself, only a week ago.

Jason Morse said, “Coming home most of all is coming back into the warmth and love of the people that are back home and seeing those smiling faces.”
