#WhyToysforTots

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) — WWLP-22News is continuing our holiday tradition of collecting Toys for Tots for western Massachusetts children in need.

There was an extra slice of holiday cheer in the lobby of the 22News studio Monday afternoon during the Toys for Tots campaign, as we received a truck-full of gifts.

Santa was escorted to our studios by Springfield Police! Together, officers and Santa brought three huge boxes full of gifts for Toys for Tots. There were so many toys, it took over a half an hour to unload them from a moving truck.

The boxes were stacked like toy towers.

Joseph Gentile, President of Springfield Police Union —

“Well I mean helping children is one of the most rewarding things that a police officer does. And for us, to be able to help them in this way, a little different, through a charity, is just a little extra special. Knowing they’ll have something to open under the tree on Christmas.”

“Well, I mean helping children is one of the most rewarding things that a police officer does,” said Joseph Gentile, president of Springfield Police Union. “And for us, to be able to help them in this way, a little different, through a charity, is just a little extra special. Knowing they’ll have something to open under the tree on Christmas.”

This is the second consecutive year that the Springfield Police Patrolman’s Union has made a significant donation to our Toys for Tots campaign. And all of the toys donated during this campaign go directly to children in western Massachusetts.

This year, we want to hear why YOU are donating.

When you stop by our lobby, snap a photo and use the hashtag #WhyToysForTots on social media to let us know why you donated. Don’t forget to tag 22News in your post.

We’ll also be in the lobby to capture why you donate to Toys for Tots on camera!
