Hundreds of people in Hampshire County came together Friday night to celebrate the early dark, with light.
A winter solstice event was held at the Mass Audubon Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary in Easthampton Friday evening.
For years, people have come together to celebrate the shortest day of the year and welcome the longer days ahead.
The free event featured a small bonfire, live music, and a luminary trail through the woods.
Sanctuary Director Jonah Keane told 22News, “We do it here as a way to bring the community together, to bring the community together at Arcadia and bring them here to connect with the work that we do and with each other.”
The event was originally scheduled for December 21 but was postponed due to bad weather.
Arcadia is celebrating its 75th year.
