LONGMEADOW, Mass (WWLP) — Energy Company Kinder Morgan introduced a new outline for their pipeline expansion project.

In an environmental report released Friday, Kinder Morgan outlined plans, including a meter station in Longmeadow and another in Deerfield. Meter stations are used to record and monitor the amount of natural gas in the pipeline system.

Meter stations can usually be found every 40 to 70 miles along a pipeline.

Many residents are against the expansion because they’re not sure whether it would harm the environment 22News spoke to Linda Desarro of Longmeadow Saturday who said she’s against the project because she’s concerned it’ll change the character of her town. “Sometimes lowering the costs increase the other costs so now, I think there are other ways to access energy,” she said.

According to the report, 17-hundred acres of land would be impacted during pipeline construction, something some residents don’t agree with. But Kinder Morgan says it’ll lower the cost of energy by bringing more natural gas into the state.

The company plans on filing a second draft of their report this June. Kinder Morgan’s goal is to have the project operating by 2018
