HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – The Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants held a “You Can Afford College” workshop Thursday in Holyoke. The event is part of a new statewide initiative focused on informing students and parents about resources available to help them pay for college.

Holyoke State Representative Aaron Vega (D) is partnering with the organization. He hopes workshops like these will help educate parents on the resources that are available.

Representative Vega said, “I think it’s important for families to start planning early and really think about what is it going to take to get their son or daughter to college. In Massachusetts, were lucky enough to have a great community college program so they can save a lot of money first before going to a 4 year university.”

The new initiative comes at a time when the cost of college and the average student loan debt has risen to unprecedented levels.
