Alligators freeze in N.C. swamp with noses above ice

Alligators in the Carolinas are taking a plunge to beat the cold weather.

This is a close look at a frozen gator at the swamp park in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina.

Eighteen alligators froze Monday night and stayed like that all day Tuesday.

A manager says the animals could sense the oncoming freezing weather – and poked their noses out just in time.

The animals are said to enter a state of “brumation” – which is similar to hibernation.

Don’t worry though – the alligators were able to thaw out days later.
