A California sheriff’s deputy turned on his body camera to capture what he thought would be the last few moments of his life during the deadly Camp Fire.
The video shows Deputy Aaron Parmley performing a harrowing search for a group of nurses who were stranded at a hospital in Butte County.
When his car became disabled, he continued his search on foot through the flames.
Eventually, he found the nurses, and guided them down a road surrounding by flames as embers showered down on them.
At some point, Deputy Parmley spots a bulldozer in the distance, and shines his flashlight to flag it down.
The driver gives them a lift, but only for a few, because of the limited amount of space inside.
Search and recovery efforts are still underway in the wake of the fire, which killed 88 people. Nearly 200 people are still missing.
