(KYMA/NBC News) – Two shelters on opposite sides of the U.S.-Mexico border are working together to deal with an influx of more than 50 migrant children who have arrived over the past week.
The Calexico, California based non-profit organization Border Kindness has teamed up with the Cobina Posada del Migrante in Mexicali to help care for the children.
The shelter provides immediate medical attention to families, including dental and doctor visits. The organization said they are facing other challenges including not having enough food and even some children arriving with undiagnosed illnesses.
“They arrive here with very difficult situations that are very complicated. Some arrive very sick, others arrive not well-fed, and some with illnesses,” says director Nallely Llerenas.
