(WPRI) — Police are investigating after a Brockton woman was killed in a four-car chain reaction crash on Route 495 Friday afternoon.

According to the Massachusetts State Police, the 57-year-old woman was traveling on the ramp from Route 44 to Route 495 North in Middleboro when she lost control of her vehicle.

Police said her vehicle spun out and was struck head on by a Cadillac driven by a 55-year-old Wareham woman.

The Cadillac then spun out into the left lane of traffic on Route 495, hitting a Kia Optima being driven by a 55-year-old Easton man. The Kia Optima was then struck by a Toyota Sienna that was being driven by a 37-year-old Centerville man.

The Brockton woman was transported to Morton Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. The Wareham woman was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton with serious injuries.

It’s unclear if the other drivers involved were injured.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Police are not releasing the victims’ names at this time.
