Cancer cluster research effort underway

(WLTZ) An effort to find funding to research Ocular Melanoma is underway in Alabama.

The move comes after an Auburn University graduate was diagnosed with the rare eye cancer.

Since then, 31 people have come forward, who attended or worked at the college from 1980 to the early 1990s, that have been diagnosed with the same type of cancer.

There are more cases of Ocular Melanoma in Alabama than any other state in the United States.

Right now, there are studies going on in Huntersville, North Carolina and Albany, New York, where there’s also a high number of Ocular Melanoma cases.

So far, North Carolina has dedicated $100,000 to research those findings.
