Cold Case Mystery: Missing cop’s remains found

The Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office has identified human remains found in Mason City in May as Cerilla Doyle of Bentonville, Arkansas.

Doyle was reported missing in October 2008 and declared dead in April 2018.

A Mason City resident discovered a human skull while walking near their home that was later identified as Doyle’s.

Doyle did not have connections to the northern Iowa city, officials say.

Doyle was a sergeant at Arkansas’ Pea Ridge Police Department for nearly 13 years before retiring in August of 2008, shortly before she disappeared.

The investigation conducted by the Bentonville Police Department determined that Doyle had left the area voluntarily and no contact had been made with her since she went missing.

She left her two cars at home, along with a title to one the vehicles, other documents, and a check for $27,000 made out to her daughter.
