The mayor of Ocala, Florida is facing harsh criticism after issuing a proclamation recognizing Confederate Memorial Day.
The proclamation led to a tense response from Ocala City Council President Mary Sue Rich, who said the move is making her start to believe past unfounded claims that Guinn is a member of the Ku Klux Klan.
“I am not, repeat, not in the KKK. I never have been. I never will be. And I despise and I hate everything that organization stands for,” Mayor Kent Guinn said Wednesday.
The proclamation presented named April 26, 2019, as Confederate Memorial Day in Ocala.
