A celebration was held Tuesday for the return of a mother deported 17 months ago.
Maribel Trujillo Diaz came to America in 2002. She’s been fighting to stay here ever since, claiming her life is in danger from drug cartels.
Since her deportation, Diaz has been living in Mexico, but she was reunited with her family in Ohio on September 19.
“If anyone asks me how I spent those long months apart from my family, I would say in prayer. When I arrived at my family’s in Mexico, naturally I was sad and disheartened,” said Diaz with the help of a translator.
