PINELLAS COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A St. Petersburg man was arrested for child abuse after a dodgeball game got out of control on Friday, authorities said.

Halid Dedic took part in a game of dodgeball at a trampoline arena in the 13000 block of 66th Street North in Largo.

When the 22-year-old was hit by a ball, he became angry, and tried to tackle the 15-year-old who threw it, but fell. Back on his feet, Dedic charged the victim again and got in his face, police said, according to an affidavit.

“The defendant then open hand slapped the victim in the face,” investigators said, leaving a red mark.

Police said the 22-year-old had been “trash talking” other players and threatened to beat them up, according to witnesses.

Dedic was arrested for child abuse and booked into the Pinellas County Jail.

Online jail records show he’s also facing charges for violating his probation on previous charges of burglary, dealing in stolen property and trafficking in stolen property.

His bond was set to $5,000.
