GREELEY, CO (WCMH) – A man is recovering after a freak accident on a Colorado golf course.

Golfer Matt Gutierrez told KDVR he was looking forward to the Pro-Am tournament at Greeley Country Club last week.

While taking some practice swings, he says he felt a pain in his leg that felt like a bolt out of the blue. That’s exactly what it was, a bolt.

Gutierrez caught a boundary rope with his wedge club, which yanked an eye bolt out of the ground. The bolt flew at him as it was launched from a slingshot.

The bolt hit is leg and pierced the bone.

With the bolt still in his leg, he was taken to an area hospital.

“They unscrewed it and pulled at one time.  Boom,” said Gutierrez.

He has since visited the hospital twice, endured a painful operation and suffered an infection in his bone.

He still has the bolt. He says he’s keeping it as a souvenir.

“My buddies are making fun of me and saying I should make a chain of it and just wear it every time I go to the golf course,” said Gutierrez.
