SCHOHARIE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – On October 6, 2018, 20 people perished in the deadliest transportation incident within the last decade.
New York State Police said a 2001 Ford Excursion limousine was traveling southwest on Route 30 and failed to stop at the Route 30A intersection in Schoharie.
The limo traveled across the intersection into the Apple Barrel Country Store parking lot and struck a parked and unoccupied 2015 Toyota Highlander. The limo continued into a small wooded ravine where it came to a rest.
Of the 20 victims, 18 were in the limo. Two pedestrians were also killed.

A Gathering for Family, Friends & The Community will be held on Friday, October 12, 2018 from 3 until 7p.m. at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 50- 52 Cornell Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, October 13th, 2018 at 1 o’clock at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 50- 52 Cornell Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Burial services will be private.
Services for Shane McGowan and Erin (Vertucci) McGowan are as follows:
A Gathering for Family, Friends & The Community will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 2 until 6p.m. at Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 11:15a.m. at Historic St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam, NY 12010. Burial will follow in St. Casimir’s Cemetery.
Services for Savannah Devonne Bursese are as follows:
The family will receive relatives and friends from 3 until 7p.m. Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St, Gloversville, NY.
A private Celebration of Savannah’s Life will take place Friday at the convenience of the family.
Here is what we know about the victims:
Amy (King) Steenburg (29 years old) was celebrating her 30th Birthday.
Axel Steenburg (29 years old) was married to Amy. They are pictured below. The couple was married earlier this summer.
Rich Steenburg (34 years old) from Johnstown NY. Rich was Axel’s brother. Rich leaves behind a wife and a daughter.
Abby King –Jackson (34 years old) was a teacher Lynch Literacy Academy. She was a sister of Amy’s.
Adam Jackson (34 years old) was Abby’s Husband and worked for the Montgomery County Board of Elections. They leave behind two young daughters.
Allison King (31 years old) of Ballston Spa, was a 2010 graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh. She was one of Amy’s sisters.
Erin (Vertucci) McGowan – (34 years old) Erin was married to Shane McGowan. The couple was married earlier this year at St. Mary’s Church
Shane McGowan – (30 years old) Married to Erin Vertucci . Both were from Amsterdam. They were both passengers in the limo.
Brian Hough was one of two pedestrian victims. He was an assistant professor of geology at SUNY Oswego who arrived at the college in 2016 as a visiting professor. He taught courses in stratigraphy, oceanography, historical geology, and paleontology.
Patrick Cushing (31 years old) was a passenger in the limo. He grew up in Amsterdam. His family says he participated in every sport. He was very passionate about dodgeball. Patrick was employed by the NYS Senate in the IT department. He was dating Amanda Halse, another passenger in the limo
Amanda Halse (26 years old) Amanda was from Halfmoon, NY she was dating Patrick Cushing.
Robb Dyson (34 years old) was from Watertown, NY he was married to Amy’s sister Mary.
Mary Dyson (33 years old) was from Watertown, NY sister of Amy.
Amanda Rivenburg (29 years old) Amanda was from Colonie. NEWS10 has learned Amanda worked at Living Resources. She worked directly with individuals with disabilities. She was a 2011 graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh and earned her degree in social work.
Scott Lisinicchia – (53 years old) from Lake George, NY. Scott was the driver of limo. Law enforcement confirmed he did not have the proper license to operate the limo.
State Police have set up a dedicated phone line to assist family members of the victims. Family members are encouraged to call 1-877-672-4911.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
State Police say that the victims were active on their cell phones prior to the crash, both texting and on social media. State Police is asking anyone that may have been in contact with the victims to contact State Police at 518-630-1700.
