Senate support for Secretary of State nominee Mike Pompeo remains in question ahead of a vote scheduled for next Monday.
The former CIA director is at risk of being voted down by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, with Republican Rand Paul announcing Thursday he will vote against Pompeo.
Democrats saying they want someone who will stand up to the president.
“We didn’t hear any evidence at the hearing for Director Pompeo that he was willing to do that,” said New Hampshire’s Senator Jeanne Shaheen.
Many Republicans hope pompeo will still be approved in a full senate vote.
“Who could know more about what’s happening around the world than the director of the CIA? No one,” argues Tenessee’s Senator Bob Corker.
