(WPRI) — An investigation into the theft of fishing tackle and construction tools led to the arrest of a Westport man Thursday.

Westport police said they charged 58-year-old Tobias Araujo with receiving stolen property, possession of a dangerous weapon and possession of ammunition without a Firearms Identification Card.

Police said their investigation began when thousands of dollars worth of fishing rods and reels, along with construction tools, were stolen from an address on Amory Petty Way within the last two weeks.

According to police, investigators learned Thursday that several stolen items had turned up at a pawn shop in Fall River.

Based on those items, Westport police said they obtained a search warrant for Araujo’s home on Briggs Road.

While searching Araujo’s home, police said they found more stolen items. According to police, Araujo identified a second person while talking to investigators.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
