SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP/AP) – People around the world held demonstrations on Friday, demanding action to improve the climate.

In western Massachusetts, ‘Climate Strikes’ were held in Northampton, Hadley and right here in Springfield. A Springfield rally took place in Court Square, where dozens of people came out to support the cause.

It was a peaceful rally that involved signs speeches and singing. The Springfield Climate Justice Coalition led Friday’s rally. 22News spoke with one woman who said she was there in an effort to provide a better world for her daughter.

“It’s about our future, about their future. even if you don’t have kids it’s going to affect the future generation so it’s super important,” said Nancy Kocsmiersky.

Students across the world have walked out of school for the past few years to participate in climate strikes. There were a number of other events this week promoting awareness of climate change.
