GREENWOOD, SC (WSPA) – A Greenwood man has been charged with indecent exposure after he allegedly ran naked down area streets.

According to a police report, officers saw Norman Wightman, 56, running nude on West Kirksey Drive near Lyman Avenue early Saturday morning.

Wightman told a police officer that he was not clothed because he had been looking for snakes earlier and there were snakes in his pants.

He reportedly told police that the snakes started to bite him when he was walking down the road and that’s when he undressed on the side of the road.

Wightman said he then started running away from the snakes and was attempting to get to a family member’s home on Lyman Avenue.

Officers noted in the report that Wightman appeared to be under the influence of narcotics and was acting distraught and high strung.

Wightman denied taking drugs or alcohol, and said his clothes were near the Greenwood County Health Department on South Main Street.

Officers were able to recover his pants, but did not find any more of his clothing.

Wightman was arrested and he then told police that he wanted to go to the hospital without giving a reason.

Police took him to Self Regional, where he was cleared by medical personnel.

He was taken to the GCDC where he was cited for indecent exposure.
