School drop-off surprise: Police K9 bites teacher

A Florida teacher was helping out at a student drop off area Wednesday when he was met with quite a surprise.

A Manatee County deputy was dropping off his child at Imagine Schools North Manatee in Palmetto in his marked squad car with a K9 in the back. Out of habit, the teacher reached for the back door handle.

“The deputy tried to tell the teacher ‘no,’ was trying to get the window rolled down in time,” said Manatee County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Randy Warren.

The dog rushed out.

“The dog exited the vehicle and actually ran over and jumped up on the teacher, probably in a playful way, and that teacher was kind of startled by that, pushed the dog away and that’s when the dog bit this person,” said Warren.

The dog bit the teacher in the stomach before it was stopped by the deputy. The injured man had to be treated at a nearby hospital.
