South Carolina sues to stop offshore drilling


South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson believes an offshore exploration process is violating federal and state law.

 That’s why he joined a lawsuit against the Trump administration on January 7 to block seismic testing and offshore drilling in the waters near the state.

 Wilson believes the process isn’t worth the risk. In a recent interview with NBC affiliate WSAV, the attorney general said Federal and State regulations haven’t been cleared to make sure no harm comes to the environment, the people, or South Carolina’s bottom line.

 Wilson says he does not have a timetable for when the lawsuit may end up in court, but if a District Judge does strike it down, the attorney general says he’ll take the fight all the way to the Supreme Court.
