Thousands stung by jellyfish at Florida beaches

World

(WESH) – Monday marked a record-setting day for the number of jellyfish stings at beaches in Volusia County.

The county’s beach patrol officials said 11 people were pulled from the ocean Monday, and there were 397 stings reported. That brings the total number of stings to 2,447 in the last 11 days.

All swimmers were treated without any major issues.

Safety officials say the different types of jellyfish are being blown in from the Gulf Stream.

Conditions likely won’t change until there is a shift in the weather.
