(WPRI) — Massachusetts State Police said Friday they were investigating after the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Boston was vandalized.

State police said a woman discovered the vandalism on Morrissey Boulevard Thursday afternoon and reported it to the South Boston barracks.

According to state police, someone threw bricks at the memorial, cut an American flag, apparently stole a POW-MIA flag, and took a Massachusetts flag off its pole. Troopers found the Massachusetts flag near the woods with trash dumped on top of it, state police said.

Police said the vandal or vandals also ripped up plants and cut down several surrounding bushes.

State police ask anyone with information to call the South Boston barracks at (617) 740-7710.
