“You got to really keep fighting”

A Detroit man walked out of Michigan prison as a free man Wednesday after serving 15 years for a murder prosecutors now say he was wrongly accused of.

In 2003, Aaron Salter was arrested for a shooting on the east side of Detroit that left one man dead and two others injured.

The main evidence against Salter was a witness who identified Salter as the shooter in court, investigators now say that witness identified the wrong man.

That was when he was 21-years-old, he walked free on his 36th birthday.

“Keep fighting man,” Salter said standing between his parents. “You got to really keep fighting.”

Salter was sentenced to life in prison without parole, for a murder he knew he didn’t commit.

“Horrible man, like being falsely accused,” Salter said. “That’s like the worst thing anybody can ever have done to them, because people treat you like you’re a murderer.”
