Patriots defeat Colts in Week 5 at Gillette Stadium

NFL New England

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WWLP) – The New England Patriots kicked off week 5 of the NFL season when they took on the Indianapolis Colts at Gillette Stadium Thursday night.

FINAL SCORE: Patriots 38, Colts 24 Final

The Patriots had WR Julian Edelman in the lineup for the first time this season. Edelman returned to the team after serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy on performance-enhancing substances.

George Desroches of Rhode Island told 22News having Edelman back will improve the offense, “You’re going to see a much different offensive team when they come out there, they’re going to be much more sharper and creative because they can’t just focus on Gronk and the run game.”

The team has relied on the receiving corps of Chris Hogan, Philip Dorsett, and Cordarrelle Patterson in Edelman’s absence.

One fan told 22News he thinks New England will have a winning record during the month of October.

“I think you’ll see a really strong game against Indianapolis and the week and a half will allow them to prepare for Kansas City and give them their first or second loss of the season and catapult us into November which is Patriots time,” said Desroches.

New England (2-2) comes into Thursday’s game having won their last seven games against Indianapolis (1-3). The Patriots have an all-time record of 47-28 against the Colts.

Longmeadow resident and last season’s winner of NBC’s The Voice Brynn Cartelli sang The National Anthem before kickoff!

Kickoff for tonight’s game was at 8:20 p.m.
