(WPRI) — After two consecutive losses on the road for the second time this season and the departure of Josh Gordon, it’s been an entertaining and hectic few weeks for the New England Patriots.

Despite all of that, the team is one win shy of locking up the AFC East title for the 10th consecutive season. They’ll try to do that this afternoon as they return to the comfortable confines of Gillette Stadium against the Buffalo Bills.

Final Score: New England Patriots 24, Buffalo Bills 12

Below are some notes and quotes from inside Gillette Stadium this past week to set the table for the game:

  • With 21 passing yards Tom Brady will reach 4,000 yards passing this season, marking the 10th time in his career tha he has reached the milestone, the third-most in NFL history (Peyton Manning, Drew Brees)
  • With three receptions, Julian Edelman will move past Ben Coates for fifth all-time on the Patriots receiving leaders list.
  • The Patriots have held 12 of their 14 opponents to less than eight points in the fourth quarter this year, including four shutouts.

Tom Brady on his initial reaction to the Josh Gordon news: “There wasn’t much reaction. We all wish him the best. I think that’s kind of how we all feel. We want him to do what’s right for him.”

Bill Belichick on the departure of Josh Gordon: ” I spoke with Josh [Gordon] yesterday morning, as I have several times since he’s been here. It’s obviously an unfortunate situation, and personally, I wish him the very best, as we all do on this team. He’s made a statement, the organization’s made a statement, the league’s made a statement. I’ve spoken on him at length over the last three months, and so I don’t really have anything at this point to add to that. It’s a private matter, and I hope that he’s able to deal with it successfully.”

James White on his 10-catch performance against the Bills earlier in the season: “They play a lot of zone defense so naturally versus zone defense, a lot of check-downs can happen. So not just myself – Rex [Burkhead], Sony [Michel] have to be available there if we’re open, catch the ball, get as many yards as possible and protect it. They’re a defense that makes you drive the ball down the field so they’re going to make you work for it.”
