AIC men’s hockey team leaves for semi-final game in Buffalo

American International College’s men’s hockey team is headed to the Atlantic Hockey Association semi-finals for the first time in the team’s history.

A send-off rally was held Wednesday at the MassMutual Center for the team. They’re headed to Buffalo to face Robert Morris University in the semi-finals.

The team was escorted by members of the Springfield Police Department, the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department and AIC Campus Police.

Head coach Eric Lang said he’s excited about the team’s success. “[It] makes our guys feel proud to represent the city of Springfield. We’re the only Division I hockey program in the city here, so we’re certainly excited to go to Buffalo and do our best and try and secure the NCAA Division I berth out of our conference.”

AIC defeated Army West Point at home last weekend in the quarterfinals.

The semi-final game will be held on Friday. Puck drops at 4:05 p.m.
