Scott Payea out of Vermont won his second American Canadian Tour championship last month during the Sunoco World Series of Racing at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park. Payea won back-to-back championships on the American Canadian Tour.
Payea talked about his race last month at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park, “Really the first part of the race was great. We got a little spread out. We got some room to run. Picked off a few spots. Felt really comfortable and then once that yellow came out. I knew there was going to be some excitement with all the lap cars mixed in there. It was crazy after eight laps.”
Payea told 22News to go back-to-back winning championships is a testament to his team.
“Our RPM Motorsports team they work so hard in giving me the best race car every week,” said Payea.
Payea finished in the top 10 in all of the races on the 10 race schedule this past year and completed every lap. Payea won two races. His car owner Rick Paya and RPM Motorsports have won a total of 10 championships on the American Canadian Tour.
Tom Curley was the promoter of the American Canadian Tour. Curley passed away in May 2017. Payea told 22News when he clinched the championship at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park back in October, he knows if Tom Curley was still here. He knows how much Curley would be proud of him.
“Tom was one of my biggest supporters right from the get-go. I was just a product of his system he created at Thunder Road. We ran all of his divisions, street stocks, tiger sportsman and then late models. I know he is smiling down tonight. (October 13) and maybe he was giving all the help out there tonight (October 13),” said Payea.
Payea was officially crowned champion at the 2018 American Canadian Tour Awards Banquet last weekend in Vermont. The 2019 American Canadian Tour schedule was released last weekend and will kick off their 2019 season at Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine on Sunday, April 14.
